Tues July 28, 1970. It was a day devoted to one undertaking: writing a letter to Billy's draft board for his C.O application. Wrote 2 drafts, revising each several times, typed out 2 copies each with 2 carbons, typed a personal letter to Billy.

Rec'd letter from Margaret, asking for money. Liz wrote about her mother's "illness." There is no end to family problems.

Was glad to get away in evening to Loews for a game of scrabble.

Wed 29th A torrid humid day. Cooked dinner for tonight for Mostels, Herb, Loews, Odums - pork with bok & chard in bl. bean sauce, chicken lemon sauce, shrimp & clam & egg - a curry dip, salad, banana cake, mixed fruit. Later, by candlelight (too warm for gas lamps) some talk on painting, but not much. (in a.m. Gerard Harris picked up 2 drawings)

Thurs 30th another hot day - still no rain or thundershower - hazy overcast day. Letter from Alfred Preis, exec. director of State Foundation on Culture & the Arts, (Hawaii) offering me job as an artist in res. in Waianae high school at 12000. Answer will be NO. Roses [[strikethrough]] at [[/strikethrough]] in bloom: Valencia, Oklahoma, Ch. Peace, Peace, Granada, L. Elgin, W. Abbey, Zambra, Red Tide.

The whole perren. [[perennial]] garden in full bloom, the veg. garden all filled in, with no space for walking. Guitar session tonite - Muffie & Judy Young.

Friday July 31. And so, the half-way day of the summer. Spent all day getting picture "Night Coast" framed (Nick) & delivered to Balmy Days (Jean Andrews) Priced at 175. Frame (glass) costs 10.50. I made the mat. Painted at night on the grey surf acrylic painting. Overcast day. Still no rain.

Sat. Aug. 1. The ptg [[painting]] goes well. Remember this: whiteness & greyness keep the total space total space. No separation of shape and entity, therefore space remains total [[strikethrough]] as does [[/strikethrough]] and definition of subject is infinite. A good day, good work. (Obermans arrived)
