Thurs 6/24. It rained all day and a wind came up from the sea. On the wind gauge in the l.r. the wind registered 32 (moderate gale). The sea was a mass of turbulent white all day and night. After class (critique, salt water taffy, etc.) drove with Tom to bakery for a dutch apple pie for tonight's dinner (Fred's, or Tom's). Tom served beer, sphaghetti w. meat sauce, bread, a salad. Chris there also. Rain, persistent, heavy, like Monhegan. (Rommy + I back to cottage for extra dishes, using back path). Home at 10 thru sandy front road. The sea was blurred dark & blurred white, 2 bands. The roar, was suddenly loud when we reached to top of the dune, was unbelievable. Such a sound. So unfamiliar.

Fri 25th June. A full day. To elem. school at 9 sharp to hang exhibit (with students). Took 2 hrs. Then to "studio," home for lunch: razor clams with asparagus. Back to class for talk on "originality - ways toward." Farewells, a gift from class of 10.80, a ptg [[painting]] for me, sweeping of the room, etc etc. Then home, & then a drive to Hug Pt. beach (5 min so.) for a fire on the rocks to heat up a dish of beef, tom, peppers + a can of water for tea. A walk on the beach in the bright evening light - 2 red-billed shore birds on the sand. Home, exhausted.

Sat 26th up at 830 - over to Tom's to ask him to fix pilot light of heater - & for breakfast. Then me to beach, barefooted at 930 - tide just coming in - no clams, but goosebarnacles which we ate for lunch and tasted like lobster tails. A walk to the 3rd house in the estate-a grand setting. Felt ill - indigestion - rested. Than to Janet's & Mary's to return clam jar & say goodbye. Then to Ecola State Park for a review of outlook & beach. Home for a nap to 930 then supper. A call yesterday from Frederick Heidel - Portland State U.
