Saw a mink farm. The bounty of the land is overwhelming. In the evening drove to the edge of C to Shepard & Gloria Levines' for supper. A large brown house, studio, trees. A pleasant evening.

Thurs. July [[strikethrough]]10[[/strikethrough]]7. After lunch on patio (crab - egg, raspberries, to the M.U. to see Protest in art show. To the store to cash checks. To Albertson's market & into town for gas etc. A very hot day.

Fri [[strikethrough]]7[[/strikethrough]]8th In anticipation of meals of large fat mussels from the shore, I phoned Mr. Groshong and the Fisheries dept of OSU for advice on the edibility of that shellfish. negative. A winding mountain road not unlike Kokee, leading to a very beautiful stretch along the Alsea River where we twice stopped (the first at Missouri Bend) a section of small rapids & towering cliffs of fir). The second stop - where we had been with May & Mira 2 wks before - was of large rocks, large water rooted plants, & a wide river. Along the sandy shore I found thick growth of Salmonberry & a kind of raspberry which I (timidly) sampled. Had lunch there on the the riverbank. Hot & sunny.
