Named one of the fifty outstanding botanists of the country, and the author of over 300 papers on the natural sciences, he had just completed his 2d volume on the "Floras of the World". He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and held office in several scientific societies.

He leaves a wife, Doris (Holmes) Blake, and a daughter, Mrs. Jack Ullman of Chicago.

Memorial services were held at his home in Arlington, Va.
