Dear Mrs. Blake,

I was sad to learn from Bernice Schubert of Dr. Blake's sudden death at Beltsville. I remember well a ride through the canals of Copenhagen with Dr. Blake, yourself, and your daughter in 1950 and a number of other very pleasant meetings including a week working together at Paris.

Because I grew up in Sharon, Mass. and did my graduate work at the Gray Herbarium, I have always felt pride at the thought of following a near neighbor through some of the same steps to the same profession. Although my opportunities to know your husband were limited I cherish fine memories of his cheerfulness and helpfulness.

I hope it will be encouraging to know that Dr. Blake, both as a person and as a valued colleague, served and still serves as a guide to some of the younger botanists. We shall miss him. May I, then, extend my most sincere sympathy to you and your daughter in the hope that these few words will somehow buoy you up.

Most sincerely,
Harold E. Moore, Jr.
