Dear Mrs. Blake:

It was kind of you to write. I knew Sid Blake since 1917, when I met him, along with J.F. McBride at the Gray Herbarium. Therefore he was my friend of longest standing in Washington. In additional to being a fine botanist - by far the best in Washington - he was also a fine man. I have never heard a mean word spoken against him, which is quite a thing, even among botanists.

Mrs. Swenson had the misfortune of breaking a leg severely this past year. When she is able to navigate better, we are coming up to see you.
