Dear Mrs. Blake,

I have just heard from Dr. Bernice Schubert of your great loss and I hasten to send you my sincere sympathy and that of all my botanical colleagues of Kew. Sidney was one of my oldest- and certainly the most endearing - of my American friends and I personally get a sharp sense of being poorer now that he has gone. Always he was so charming and helpful and I am glad indeed to have the precious memory of meeting him at Beltsville in the fall of 1958 when he showed me plants and told me things which made my few hours with him the most interesting in my whole trip. I shall certainly always be grateful to him for the help and friendship. I cannot imagine that he ever said a harsh word to anyone and surely the warm expression of gratitude from his friends will be a comfort to you. My thoughts are very much with you.

Yours most sincerely,

George Taylor
