My dear Mr. Pepper -

Your letter was sent out of town & forwarded to me here after some delay & only reached me yesterday. I am distressed beyond expression to learn of your trying summer & long illness. A degree [[?]] I have planned I write you in  [[???]] to tell you not 

to trouble about the little blankets but for one reason & another never carried out my plans. I have been living away from New York & came in nearly a month ago with plans for [[? ? ]] pleasure among [[ ?]] a nice [[?]] I was properly hunkered down when I was quietly walking in Fifth Ave by a man who, in [[?]] nag & [[? ?]] a terrific blow on my back & I have been laid up ever since with a dislocated right
