Dear Doris
I am now sitting down to write a few lines after dinner, consisting of beef stew made after your receipt of rice to thicken it, and good light dumplins, cookies and mince pie and cheese. I am adding the last finishing touch to the xmas things, which we intend to send off the first of this week, say by Tuesday; There isn't as much coming this time, you know I didn't work on my Jackets through the hot weather and it seems as though there are a dozen of things, awaiting for ones money now a days. Sue says that Helen is in bad shape and that she defends on Alice Labbot for every thing. So Mary wrote to her to tell Luella about her condition, which she did but Luella has her Mother to take care of and dont want Helen. So they propose trying to get her into a home, where Gerards mother is out to Mount Pleast.
