Dear Doris

It is eight-o'clock Pa has eaten his breakfast and has been down after the Sunday morning paper. our thermometer stands at 54° Thursday we had our first welcomed rain, for five weeks we have had no sign of any moisture. every one was rejoyced to see it come, our hot scorching sun was burning up all the gardens and fruit, and grass; and every where the destructive fires, were rageing, air full of smoke all the time, a terrible condition when the wind got into the NW and a down pour came and such a relief, a great change now its too cool nights and mornings. I hope it will last a while, it gives me some ambition to work. Friday it seemed so cool I went down to Blakes, the company were down to Marion for the day. she is taking lots of pleasure from their visit, and is doing fine, they are talking of going this week
