Dear Doris

We are having nice cool weather since the middle of this week, when so many showers went around on both sides of us and we escaped with a good down pour, the most we have got all this summer. I have been quite busy this week, one day I went berrying with Mrs. Griffin and Ring and Billy Dyer, up back of Rosses old place. The green ones were thick, but we managed to get a quite a few, I got two qts and a pint we were only gone a couple of hours. I made a couple of pies and a blueberry cake and have got enough for another pie left. I was alone all day yesterday. Pa went up to Worcester and was gone all day till he shut up the store at night, so I went up to Lon Thompsons and got some pies for dinner and they were good, and we are having some for todays dinner, together with string beans. I have just turned off the first water, as I usually do, and they are not so strong. Grandma always used to do them so. everything is growing since the rain. We are having lots of raspberries but they are spreading. Mrs. Dykeman has got the Columbia they are better flavored and dark when ripe and do not spread, I would like to have some of that kind for next year as there is not much flavor to the Cuthberts we find. I have not heard from Sids folks this week but conclude that everything is running smooth and their company there still. the Cranes are home again and place unsold. I am sorry for them for think they are in need of the money but dont know how much Ellis left as we have never seen any account of it as yet. I am sewing now making towels out of old grain bags I have got six on the line whitening and have got a lot more to make up
