Bureau Refugees, Freedmen &c.
Office Asst. Commr for Miss.,
Vicksburg Miss., Aug. 3d 1867.

Respectfully referred to Lieut H.R. Williams, Asst. Insp Genl. who will proceed to Sardis Miss., and thoroughly investigate the allegations contained in this letter.

By order of
Bvt. Major General A.C. Gillem
Assistant Commissioner
A.W. Preston
Captain V.R.C. Bvt. Maj. Vols.
A.A.A. General.

Vicksburg, Miss
Aug. 14th 1867.

Respectfully returned. Upon examination of the charges contained in the com'ns within, I am well satisfied that Mr. Wiseman, the agent of the Bureau for the Dist. of which De Soto Co. is a part, is not the person referred to, as there is not the least cause existing for complaint against him, & from observation, I would state, that I believe Mr. Wiseman to be performing his duties with credit to himself, & to the general satisfaction of all parties. I have reason to believe that the person referred to by Mr. Campbell is a man residing at Hernando Do Soto Co., named Dockery who has represented himself as an agent of the Bureau in that County.

H.R. Williams
Lieut. & Asst. Insp. Gen'l.
