June 10th
Agent of Freedmen

Sir the enclosed papers you sent to Jackson to be forwarded to me I received them a few days since.
They were placed in charge of my Lawyer Colonel Estelle and stolen from his office in a recent robbery and returned to you as soon as I recovered them.
When I wrote you in Feb 5 children were living the baby 2 yrs old and boy of 4 both have died of smallpox leaving only 3 - Leheny 6 years old
Harrison 10 years old
Sophina 14 well grown for her age I should be very much pleased to obtain the children and look to you for aid as I can do nothing this year for them until after the sale of my crop, and really fear they may all die but one of them being old enough to make a living and she could not make wages-
I return all the papers to you and respectfully ask they should be acted upon immediately
Yours
Mrs C.S [[Tarpley? Tarfley?]]]]

The children have an Aunt in Georgia named Priscilla Hughes has written to me that she would return with transportation she will bring them home or Emily Gibson will go after them for me I enclose my letter to Gen Gillam fearing the [[officers? offices?]] may have been changed
Respectfully
