June 10th Agent of Freedmen Sir the enclosed papers you sent to Jackson to be forwarded to me I received them a few days since. They were placed in charge of my Lawyer Colonel Estelle and stolen from his office in a recent robbery and returned to you as soon as I recovered them. When I wrote you in Feb 5 children were living the baby 2 yrs old and boy of 4 both have died of smallpox leaving only 3 - Leheny 6 years old Harrison 10 years old Sophina 14 well grown for her age I should be very much pleased to obtain the children and look to you for aid as I can do nothing this year for them until after the sale of my crop, and really fear they may all die but one of them being old enough to make a living and she could not make wages- I return all the papers to you and respectfully ask they should be acted upon immediately Yours Mrs C.S [[Tarpley?
