Caldwells Landing Sunflower County June 12th 1867

Dear Sir Yours of the 27th ultima came to hand on yesterday. My Decision was in the cases of Murdock Cooper and Jenkins. A fine of Ten dollars in each case with the cost of Suit. Amounting in all to $25.10 on each case. their was four cases the money Has not yet been collected, as the parties wished for time to See General Ord. they Seem to be dissatisfied with my decision and intend to ask Genl Ord to remit the fine. Mr Murdock positively refuses to pay the witnesses That I had Summoned. there was 9 freedmen summoned as witnesses, and the was entitled to one dollar each. he contends that they attend as witnesses in his time that he had them hired and consequently he refuses to pay. I shal give him Ten days to Settle up and If he Still refuses I Shal turn the whole matter over to you and See what the military can do for him
As regards Thomas Walton he is a Lawyer in McNutt. I have not seen him this year as I am 25 or 30 miles below McNutt. he can be found there at any time I am Very Respectfully you Obedt Svt,
