no suitable cells, handcuffs or other usual appliances for securing crazy people, and I could not take the responsibility of putting the above mentioned maniac into the room with these women, or even allowing him on the premises to the danger of life & limb & property, without further authority.  And in this view of the case I was sustained by the Sub. Com Lieut D. M. White.  at this post.

The remark of Mr. R. E. Wilson. in his communication, "that the cause of humanity demands that something should be done for the "afore named invalid"  comes, as I am credibly informed from a man of property, who is interested in three saw-mills, & is moreover one of the contractors in the leasing or management of the State Penitentiary at Jackson.
