In compliance with the provisions of Circular No. 5. Current Series from the Office of the Commissioner, Bu. R. F. & A. L. I have the honor to submit the following Report. There are four schools for Freedmen now in operation in this District. The Yazoo City Freedmens school L. A. Willson Teacher, Col'd has about 70 pupils Enrolled, including a few adults, the majority study McGuffys first reader and Websters Spelling Book, the more advanced classes study third reader. Mental arithmetic Geography &c. the school is steadily increasing in numbers, each week bringing additions. Mr. Wilson reports that the children learn rapidly, that he has encountered none of the dullness generally accorded to freedmen, he has a night school for adults which is well attended.
The school at Tokebah know as the Morgan school, Miss L. L. Starke Teacher. Opened on the 18th of Feb last and at the close of March 31 pupils were enrolled. The studies comprise
