first, second & third reader, and a few in fourth reader and Physical Geography. The teacher reports that the attendance has been small during the month in consequence of the high water. All the plantation being submerged.
Applications have been made forom adjoining plantations and she expects a large accession to the school when the water goes off. 
The school known as Wiltons held on the plantation of Capt. C. W. Clarke, C. F. Comings Teacher was discontinued on the first of April in consequence of high water, it will open again about the first of May. There is a school in this City in charge of a Colored woman, under the auspices of the Colored Methodist Church South, consisting of about 30 pupils. They have not applied for any assistance.
Application has been received for assistance for a school to be located near Satartia in Yazoo County. I have forwarded the necessary instructions and Blanks.
I have written to parties in several towns in this District in regard to the organization of freedmens schools but as yet have received no replies. A large portion of the People are strongly opposed to the education of the freedmen, but at the present time I do not think any serious obstruction would be thrown in the way of Establishing schools, and so far as my observation goes, I would recommend that White persons be selected for teachers.
