Carlisle, Penna. 17013

Dear Mr. Broujos:

From time to time the U.S. Olympic Committee receives requests for information about any action which might be take to have the medals earned by Mr. Thorpe returned:

Following the Olympic Games of 1912 the Amateur Athletic Union, at the request of the International Olympic Committee, investigated the allegation that Mr. Thorpe had played professional baseball. The hub of the investigation was carried on by Jim's college which college submitted the full facts of the case. In submitting the facts for forwarding to the IOC, the school apologized for Thorpe's participation in the professional baseball. This information should be well documented in Carlisle.

The information after being transmitted to the IOC was studied and reviewed by the IOC which then ruled that Mr. Thorpe at the time of the Olympic games in Stockholm did not meet the eligibility requirements. Subsequently the medals were returned to the IOC headquarters and re-distributed to the men designated as the medalwinners.

There is no recourse to the action of the IOC since they re-affirmed the findings which had been submitted through the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States by his own school. For this reason there is no reason to have our by laws. However, I have enclosed a Xerox copy of the current eligibility requirements of the IOC, which eligibility requirements we must follow to the letter-- and we do.

We would appreciate your making public this communication to the members of the Carlisle Jaycees.

Cordially,

C. Robert Paul, Jr
