Sleman the most fertile of the D.I.Y. kabupaten
visited the following locations:

1. a "Devi doll" factory at Karangwuni, on the northern outskirts of Jogja on the Kaliurang road; produces dolls in traditional dance costumes; bodies molded out of plastics and fiberglass, costumes hand made
[[strikethrough]] [[illegible]] [[/strikethrough]] factory owned by Pak Budiyani; began in 1966 with capitalization of 17,500 Rp - by 1970 capitalization of 500,000 & present capitalization of Rp. 10 million

dolls are are produced in several rooms adjoining the family living quarters in the main house

devi dolls are now the fashion with upper class Javanese families and a pair of 20" dolls sells at about Rp 150,000 ($375) - are however smaller & cheaper versions, including heads hung in automobiles as mascots, etc.

[[strikethrough]] [[illegible]] [[/strikethrough]] no. of workers at Pak Budiyani's is between 17-30--3 of his workers have degrees or training from Asri (school of arts in Jogja)-in addition to devi dolls Pak Budiyanti's workshop turns out souvenir [[strikethrough]] [[illegible]] [[/strikethrough]] busts of Indonesian heros sold at Taman Mini Indonesia in Jakarta and life size models used in displays - currently working on set of mannequins to be dressed in traditional dance costumes from the Jogja kraton

raw materials are all imported now & very expensive (1 set of eyes for the lifesize models Rp 30,000) [[left margin note]] uses glass eyes produced for the blind [[/left margin note]] but says next year will be able to obtain the plastics from Pertamina

Pak Budiyani's home quite luxurious by Jogja standards

also stopped off at a large factory behind Pak Budiyantis house owned by Pak Kardono, which makes all the very large busts & statues of heros for monuments
