distributes through 20 bakuls in Pasar Klewen
the thread is made in RRT, Taiwan and some is also made in Indonesia
the 10 large traders go to Pasar Klewen with rented truck or colt to buy
- thread sold by the "bal"
- one bal = 40 pak = 180K.
- one pak = 4 1/2K
- if making plain white cloth (which weaves faster) 1 ATBM uses up 12 pak = 54K a month
- some households weave only white cloth, some weave only ikat cloth, and some combine production of different types
- for ikated (i.e. dyed) cloth, have the following additional costs per pak of thread:
[indent] 1 ounce (ons) napthal [under]NAPTOL @ Rp700
[indent] 1 ounce satts (GARAM) @ Rp500
[indent] 1/2 ounce soda Rp20(Rp 40 per ounce)
[indent] 1/2 K. plastic saffia = 1 dosin = Rp600
[left margin] ((this doesn't seem rt. - i think 12 for Rp600 = @50 + @1/2K))

double thread made in RRT)
last year the price was Rp 8000 per pak
price of the thread has been going up steadily (rather than fluctuating seasonably)
price entirely controlled by the Cukong (ie Kin Tai) + when gets too high compared with what they can sell their finished cloth for, their profits are squeezed out
this week there is no thread available in Pasar Klewer (ie for the last 7 days has been none)- acc. to them this is the first time this has ever happened and they don't know why there is no thread
when they buy thread they either go individually (perorangan) or 2 or 3 peng. may go in together
the cooperative has never done any buying of thread or marketing of cloth
dying materials (obat celup) can be bought either at Pasar Klewer or in Pekalongan - are also 2 persons in the village who sell obat celup (at their wavings ?)
use of plastic raffia for ikat work began in 1973 - formerly
