- demonstration site at Mrangen -
1 kiln large wood firing w/ many
fire "boxes" = fire holes
they made no profit w/ that kiln
another lathe kerosene burning
kiln with downdraft - we were
told it cost 'millions' to build -
produces a high quality brick
for which not enough market +
the coop which was given the
kiln stopped prod. a yr ago -
was a 20-family coop
Dept Ind man felt high
quality due to mechanical press
used in conjunction with kiln,
not due to better firing
kiln was built by Baldi Keramic
Bandung + in a nearby large
shed were mechanic presses,
extruders + multi-brick frames;
all that equipm has been taken
back to Bandung

this supplementary equipm.
could form 1000 bricks an hour,
but kiln couldn't keep up w/ that
rate

acc. to Pak Surip kilns are good
for tiles but not bricks because
the more bricks you fire at a
time the lower your firewood costs +
commonly they fire 30,000-100,000
at a time - too many for a kiln

same day review PDP credit project - Derak
