Java, on 11 industries on Madura - study entitled: "Laporan Study Kemungkinan Program Pembangunan Industries Kecil dan Kerajinan di Madura" ("Study of Growth Potential of Small and Handicraft Industries on Madura") general info: 11 industries studied are kapur (lime), genteng, blacksmitting, batik, siwalan + pandan weaving, siwalan sugar, woodworking + carving, tortoise shell work, fish nets + traps, limestone blocks, + leather work. study lists as the main characteristics of Madura industries. a. seasonal + difficult to calculate capacity b. work in sambilan, often done by older women + the children of farmers, fishermen + traders c. income received is not the main household income d. work generally done at home e. capital small, usually under 10,000 Rp ((note some inflation since 1975)); a portion of capital usually comes from traders (pedagang pengumpul), either in form of cash, or in the form of raw
