shortage of teak charcoal and the high price of teak charcoal during the rainy season, which squeezes out their profits-2 assume this is even more true on Madura the project design contains no informa-tion on current rates of charcoal useage or possible problems of supply + cost, but presumably the rate of useage would rise sharply if the village converts to making pacul and larger tools.

PR 3- project to provide training + tools to [[boxed]] pandanus [[boxed]] weavers in Desa Kampak, Kec. Geger, Kab. Bangkalan

-are 200 pandan weavers in Kec. Geger, 65 of them located in Desa Kampak
-their only product at present is tikar
-weavers are generally poor farmers who do it as a sambulan
-one tikar of medium quality takes 10 days to make + sells for 750 Rp; thus earnings ave. 75 Rp a day

my comments:
1. As majority of pandan weavers on Java are women, it is assumed this is true in Kampak as well. [[It?]] is hoped, therefore, that persons chosen for courses + study tours are also women. An excellent opportunity
