price of nilam oil now 18,000 Rp a kilo, was 22,000 Rp a few days ago
a lot of get-rich-quick profits being made + a "gold rush" atmosphere around the [[?]]
nilam is used in perfume + there is a great worldwide demand - [[?]] to Jbu Hayatun, her recent interviews with French nilam buyers indicate they prefer the native dark brown product for which their formulas are already adjusted, rather than a more refined product
according to Pak Bupati there is a problem with [[?]]; nilam is sold "di batang" ("on the stalk"/ i.e. before it is harvested)
Pak Bupati also complains that the people can't hang on to their money + spend it all running around, renting planes, etc.
also that many people who plant nilam in W Aceh come from outside the area ((from areas to South)) if credit is given in the form of kettles, Pak Bupati is afraid that the recipients won't be around when repayment time comes (because they are slash + burners)
Jbu notes a great problem with intermediaries who "extend" the pure oil with other substances to get more profits - when gets to France can't be used - if this problem can't be overcome, foreign buyers may switch to a synthetic substitute + the market may drop out
nilam oil moves from [[?]] to Medan where it is exported

100K prodice 2.4-3 oil - this yr. there has been a problem with an insect which causes withering of the leaves
1 hectare 110 K oil
- no one owns the land in the forest where the nilam is planted is called "tanah bebas")
- Outsiders come in to:
