in addition the project has tried to play a role as a national force for organizing and advocacy, making HH workers and their needs more visible communication with the public about attitudes relating to HH employment, doing basic consciousness - raising, and providing a framework for changing perception about the profession

in 1980 Project sponsored a National Conf.; New York Household Workers Week events in 1981 with hope that other local groups would initiate
conf. participants had in many cases organized fundraisers to get trip funds - conf. topics included:
- health needs of HH workers
- history of HH employment
- taking pos. action
- organizing and maintaining affiliates

NY Household Workers Week sponsored 3 major events-
- an affiate representatives meeting
- an evening reception with aff. reps and supportive leaders of toher [[?]] and members of the public
- NY state public educ. seminar held at the YWCA for both employers and employees with speakers from social security adm, IRS, Workers Compensation Board and Women's Bureau of the Dept. of Labor
