tengkulaks also pick up tools in the village and sell all over Bali
they have their own pura, called 'Pura Dalam Pandai' - located at Banjar Rangkan, desa Tusan, kec. Banjar Rangkan, kab. Klungkung has 7 levels (vs. 11 for Brahmanas)
use mainly per mobil (car springs) and bamboo charcoal as raw materials
can also use rel (rails) or plat (plate)
per mobil cost 500 Rp a kilo at time of this interview (1988) and bamboo charcoal 3500 Rp a sack (karong)
never use wood charcoal because too expensive; apparently used cemara wood before)

5. [[underlined]] from interview with I Wayan Rutig, a kris dealer [[/underlined]]

also visited I Wayan Ritug on second day of industry tour he is a kris dealer (penampung kris) who lives in Banjar Jeleka, Desa Batuan, Kec. Sukawati
he claims to be of the pandai caste but he himself is not a pandai
he buys all ages and qualities of krises, and treats rather roughly 
he has a small pendopo and displays the kris in the eaves
he says if cari don't get (kris), and if don't cari run into by accident
about 1972 the art shops in Bali had a lot of krises, many of them good ones
he makes kris plasu, i.e. krises on which the pamor has been faked through a batiking process
batiks old blades without pamor with wax in motifs resembling pamor, then dips them in a mixture of the following:
1. air warangan (arsenic)
2. jeruk nipis
3. air kelapa sudah busuk dan bening kembali (spoiled coconut water which has turned clear again)
his father is a farmer, but of the pandai caste
in order to clean old blades he uses the following process:
1. soaks them in air kelapa for 5-7 days
2. dibersihkan degan sikat dan dicuci
3. dikikir degan batu atau sandpaper until putih
6. dipped in arsenic
he can sell 30-60 krises a month
he refuses to give an estimate of his profit, but about 1 juta Rp a month
gets his krises from desa Negara, west of here
also from desa Taman Bali in Bangli
at desa Taman Bali is one pandai kris and about 35 regular smiths; at desa Negara 2 pandai who make new kris 
he seldom buy old kris nowadays
are 5 sellers from Lombok who bring in kris; dating from Kerajaan Karangasem when Bali and Lobok were a single kingdom
