Dear Doris

We have had a wintery week since Monday. a snow storm which lasted two whole days & we thought it would never end. My 76th birthday I was celebrating by digging a path through the feilds [[fields]] onto Seaver Street, so Pa should not have to wallow when he came home to supper. & then after that, he went around the road. George said no use, it will all blow in again, same as his did. but the wind was dieing down, so it remained open. but all the others had to be dug over again. on the whole I think we have had a pretty bad winter, with a good deal of snow. & I hope the spring will come early. the little birds came in great flocks to get the crumbs I put out & I ordered a pound of suet of [[off]] the butcher & tied that out in four different places. so they can come for it any time.

The little wood pecker even came during the snow storm & the limb was so plastered with snow, he could hardly find it. Bob Kenyon dropped dead on his engine day before yesterday & Booby had his leg taken off & he is gone, but perhaps its a mercy with that disease. his family will be better without him to always suffer & no relief whatever. The dress goods came Friday in the snow storm. the goods are very pretty & will make up fine, too bad to put out so much gaiety on such an old nag though. but as I thought no use to say nay, when you had once made up your mind to do it. I thank you very much just the same. The sun is nice
