Stoughton Feb 18th 1931

Dear Doris, 
The wind got into the east and from the looks of the ground I should think that it had rained pretty much all night. For the ground is covered with water, where it stands in puddles, too cold  & frozen to soak in. but the ther stands at 40° so its a warm morning, but when it clears, it will be cold. but never the less we are thankful for a little reprieve. Well Monday was town meeting. we were very much stirred up. I went down & voted & then went to see Pa at the store & found him very anxious. Winslow had just left him & they had talked the matter over & he told Pa that he did not see from the votes they were casting, then much hope. that made Pa all the worse. I was anxious so I went off & on my way home, stopped to Morts & found Anna waiting for her taxie to take her down to vote, Mort was not going. I told him it looked serious & wished he would go. he finally said he would. later on. so after I got home I called up the Republican town commitee room & told them to go get him & they started but Jimmie Lehan was there in the studio, & I took him & so brought him back. the meeting was to Elect two new candidates, as Frank S. Caperns & Greens term had expired, & we felt that
