Dear Doris.

We were pleased to receive news that little Betty was improving & hope now she is running around as usual. does she wear those littl slips under her dresses to keep her body & chest protected? this seems to be her first really sick spell, that she has ever had. I hope winter will soon pass on. we got down this morning & found the thermometer 12° above & all the trees & bushes white with snow & ice as they have been the whole week. Pa was shoveling out his paths again, from the snow & sleet that came Monday night & after the road scraper went by they filled up all the entrances to paths a yard high with the old frozen icy snow, so then that had to be shoveled away, before folks could get into their door yards. it has been dull weather since Saturday no sun I am staying right here & dont go out only to the line & to empty ashes. we are burning coal more than ever but not as much wood. those kindlings are still holding out from the new house. we dont see much of our neighbors as they are riding off & are gone way into the evening the Lord only knows when they can find places to go so
