Stoughton Oct 30th 1931

Dear Doris

I was glad to find the day was going to be pleasant the sun is more cheerful. Yesterday it was dark & rainy & I tried to find things so to keep my mind busy. no danger of forest fires we have had two distinctive fires at North Stoughton recently. The trees are fast turning a dingy brown. The chrysthameums [[chrysanthemums]] are now coming in bloom there are some very pretty blossoms. I hope the cold weather stays off for some time now. there was no one in to see us yesterday the time dragged for us both. Pa is writing or trying hard to, all day long it certainly seems pitiful trying to cling to the last straw
