Stoughton Oct 22nd 1931

Dear Doris
We have just had our dinner of chicken soup & tomatoes & apple pie Pa is trying to write names. he is quiet & so I can write a few lines perhaps. he is no better & no worse as I can see. he interferes constantly with every thing going on about him & is terribly afraid of fire. I warm up the house mornings turn on the heat for a little while & then shut it off. now he seems to be more scart of the kitchen stove & hates to have me make any fire to get my breakfast. I cooked first & made a cake this forenoon & cleaned around in the pantry & around door casings & carried the ashes, three pails, from the back door down to the sidewalk more for the sake of getting
