Pa is entertained in watching the work go on. He seems very quiet to day & is reading some. I read the paper to him too. Lena is correcting papers this afternoon & is going to Boston tomorrow she says. I put out some plants to get washed off, but I have brought them in as I thought it too cold for them. We have seen the first grackle today. The lettuce is coming up firm & Ruby came up last night after he had shut up the store & brought up things Lena had left down to the store in case they came with their car. (heavy stuff.) Mrs. Ballentine thought Lena was my daughter, untill I told her to the contrary. Lena likes her she is nice and its just as well to be on good terms with neighbors but not intimit [[intimate]] with anyone How did Mrs C stand the ordeal. hope it had no bad effects. did they give her gas?
