Dear Doris

The weatherman says showers & from the feeling it would not surprise me if one did creep up although there seems to be too much air stirring. I have just washed my windows on the outside but the screens are not put in I will put them in next no hurry they darken the room. 

I have been looking at my oriental poppies & find they are all budded both lots. I have tried to enrich the dirt around them for they need a good well cultivated ground in order to do well. Maudes ground is very rich, every thing thrives thats set out there. I guess the soil has always been kept up mine is mostly leaf mold & dries up quickly. My narcisis [[narcissus]] bulbs did not blossom this year, the ones you sent, perhaps they will next year, they lived about every one we set out. My roses are budding the hedgehog is most out will be tomorrow. Pa is still up stairs the chambers are terrible hot but still he stays there comes down to eat thats about all. he's no company for any body where ever he is dont take any interest in things isnt it awful to be in such a state. he was so much
