Dear Doris

No rain the clouds hung over all day but the sun shone out in the late afternoon. I am sorry there was no moisture to fall on us one good shower would helped its [[it's]] very dry.

I went over to Maudes [[Maude's]] with the poppy seeds her garden looks nice, she spends money on flowers freely. then I called to see Mort & Anna the [[they]] are better, but have grown old in looks this last year. they seemed glad to see me.

The boy Smith has just come to mow our lawn & Pa is wild. he sayes [[says]] himself that he is crazy & so am I. what ever he is he thinks I am the same. he is talking now so I cant [[can't]] write the letter.

The old machine ought to have been sent down to have been fixed up, for it runs awful hard & he is going to stopp [[stop]] & have the man come up & fix it for the gears have gone bad & need readjusting. this man is good at the business, he was here yesterday. so I told him & he will come up & get it before its [[it's]] used again he will have it in better condition I hope.

Smith is doing the best he can & its [[it's]] pretty hard work
