figs down town, he seems to want some thing in his mouth to chew on, most of the time. I find his quids all over the house, even on the dinner table, & in the corners of the room, & on the shelves, they are any thing but nice. but I let him be. so not to get him stirred up. I have my meals at all hours to suit his convenience. he eats then goes off by himself. for dinner. he eats one thing at a time & after his desert [[dessert]], he some times begins right over again, on potato & vegitables [[vegetables]]. not very hearty. but in a green way.

George Whiting & Foles the postmaster, have just been to see Pa. they thought he looked better & that his beard was an improvement to him. they stayed about half an hour. I had supper then after they went & he was not nervous. I was glad to see them as it seemed to break the monotony. I have no one to talk with & it some times gets lonely, day in and day out, the same old gag. I was thinking that Ralph & Maude might show up later. I have not seen them for a week now. but their fixing up after their fire takes their spare time probably. I suppose going out to so many feads gives Mrs Cutting new ideas in getting up new dishes to try. the baby seems to enjoy it as well as the grown ups. her table
