Dear Doris another day hot day. I this morning haven't down with my books to Alices she gave me one of her mothers neck chains. I took precaution to give it a bath in disinfectant water. it smells of sandalwood, so it must have been nice. a deep purple in color. Hattie Packard was there and she got the books for me at the library. she tries to show off poor woman stripped of her money which she has always been used to. it seems hard in her old age. Alice says Boy is suffering from gall stones. they thought at first it was his appendix. he seems to have hard luck they dont tell [[?]]. I never hear them mention the young cub. I dont know how he has turned out since he left home and was married I guess he was a funny [[?]]. he was a good scholar but no push. ugly as the dickens they couldnt trust
