all new growth & ready to start for another season. it blows a gale & everything is whirling through the rooms but I'm bound to keep the draft through it seems so good. the front chamber is getting too hot to breathe in, but Pa lots on having our naps there. he is not afraid if I lie there with him.

I was talking a long time yesterday with Gertrude Ballentine she was left here all by her lonesome when the others went to ride. they dont make as much of her as they do of Addie & guess she feels it. she does not think as much of Mary Toomey as the other girl does. & says when she gets home from Boston they go off and have her all alone & many a night she is watering their lawn after ten O'clock the others go to bed as soon as they get home. I wish she would marry Conlan he is crazy after her she is a sweet pretty girl. the mother relies on her other girls judgement so Gertrude thinks. she was the one who bought the lot & got sold so Gertrude says. an easy mark & he knew it so took advantage.
