Dear Doris
This is a very uncomfortable feeling day but the sun has gone in for a while the air is not what is was yesterday. Mrs [[Ballentine?]] has got an Irishman to close out her old back yard + the [[firing?]] of crackers is continuous. it will be a noisy 4th I am afraid there are so many small boys in the neighborhood. The smoke of their bonfire goes towards the west + so Pa wont see so much of it + get nervous everything gets him so stirred up + then he is for fighting but he always says its me that does the fighting even if I dont utter a word.
It was most twelve before my milk came an hour late + the man who brought it was a new man + said that [[Monk?]] was sick he has grown terrible old looking lately he cant hold out forever he used to do the work of two men for years + his wife from the milk wagon he grow old from
