Office Sub Commissioner F.B.
Meridian, Miss. 3rd Nov 1865,

Mrs. M.B. Atkinson,
Noxubee County.

Dear Madame,
Your letter of 29th October 1865 at hand,
In reply to your request, I must say that I can do nothing, that it is impossible for me to issue rations or clothing to the children, you refer to, as they are not under my immediate control. The best way to do, to prevent their suffering, is to have them bound out to you for a number of years; to compensate you for the present expense of making them comfortable. If you cannot take care of them, in this way, perhaps you may find some one who can with as little [[strikethrough]] delay [[/strikethrough]] trouble, and thereby release the Children from Suffering, and have the satisfaction that you have done your duty.

Respectfully Yours.
(Signed) Ew. L. Buchwalter
Capt and Sub Commisioner
Meridian District.
