Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands,
Office Assistant Commissioner, for Mississippi.
Vicksburg Miss., Oct. 7 1867

Respectfully returned. Major Sumner will investigate this matter if the children have not been bound with the consent of the parent - they will be released. Mr & Mrs. Atkinson will be released from their Bond but can not receive any compensation for taking care of the children as it is presumed that they have been amply paid in the work received from them.

Transcription Notes:
For the new transcriber - the "7" looks like a "4". They use a little dip at the top, most of the time, to distinguish it from a "4". If you have questions about things, look at previous images that have been transcribed, especially those around the one you are on. Also, look at Freedmen's Bureau instruction page for links that will help, and examples. It will help alot. For instance, you will find a link to the names of the staff working in Mississippi.
