Several flocks of King Eiders seen here beside Pigeon Guillemots, Murres Killiwakes Crested-least and Parrot Billed Auks and both species of Puffins beside violet green cormorants Glaucus Gull and Rodgers Fulmar were all more or less common here as well as all along the shore as far as we went to the westward

East Cape Siberia-
The wind moderated this morning so that Prof. Muir & I went on shore - He to geologize & I to see what was of interest in the way of men and animals. 
The village is on a steep slope of sharp loose granite fragments at such a steep angle that there is barely room for a path in front of each when comes a sheer fall or from a few feet to an abrupt slope of many yds - the summer houses are all formed of a stone foundation of several (from 2 to 3 ft) feet high surmounted by a dome shaped roof of walrus skins and formed frame work as noted at St, L. Is- the whole back end inside of each house is used for sleeping & is divided off by Pologs into a room for each family the bedding being raised upon a low platform of wood & beaten earth. the door is entered by an arched tunnel above ground or an uncovered tunnel of stones and the whole presents about the following appearance for a rough sketch
