On the 13th of Feb. 1879~
A meteor apparently 4 or 5 in. [strike through] long [strike through] in diameter and moving from E. to W. was seen at Ft. Reliance Upper Yukon it appeared about 14 m. high at first and descended gradually to within 200 yds of earth when it vanished or rather was extinguished or came to an end.
The observer in question says the front was black becoming red in the middle and from the tail end flew a stream of longer red sparks which would fall slowly toward the earth for some distance before becoming extinct. The meteor was [[comporating?]] near the observer when it ended its course so he is positive it was used up and destroyed by the sparks it gave out
