I strongly suspected was also stolen but could not ascertain certainly so said nothing, but took the comb & the old rascal shrunk back amid the laughter of his companions and said no more about being paid.

The umiaks are the same shape here as elsewhere along this coast but perhaps a little more slender the paddle blades for this boat are also shaped as follows - quite differently from those used at Hotham Inlet. [[image 1]] The dialect used here is closely related to that used by the Kotzbue Sd. [[Sound]] Malemuts but is very different in several respects from the form used on Norton Sd.[[Sound]]- These Pt. Hope people wear great labrets similar to those in use & noted from the people seen at Hotham Inlet.

The women tattoo the ordinary radiating chin lines and the irregular lines crossing the back of the wrist & forearm precisely like the other Malemuts.

These labrets give a coarse distorted shape to the mouth which combined with the massive jaws heavy cheekbones heavy brows & the impudent aggressive manners of the men combine to render them very disagreeable visitors and we were not sorry when the last one was on shore again in the evening.
