E. & M. page 356 Bureau Refugees, Freemen &c Office Asst. Comm'r for Miss. Vicksburg, Dec 18" 1867 Respectfully returned to 1" Lieut. Allen Almy, Sub-Asst. Comm'r at Corinth, with information that any reasonable expense incurred in the execution of orders from this office will be re-imbursed by the Disbursing Officer of the District upon proper vouchers. In case investigation is made and the case found to be as represented it is expected that Lieut. Almy will take such decided action, either by causing the employer to give bonds for the wages due, or by taking possession of enough of the crop for the purpose, as will render another journey unnecessary. If the crop is taken (over) Q22 FBS DC 1867 possession of, it may not be necessary to remove it, as it is believed that a written order to the owner, not to dispose of it until the claims against it are settled, will be sufficient and in care of disobedience, Lieut. Almy has sufficient military force to cause his orders to be respected. By order of Bvt. Maj. Gen'l. A.C. Gillen Asst. Commissioner W Barber 1" Lieut. 34" U.S. Infty. A.A.A.
