asks that the said Robert Chew and his attys of Record [[Drefrar]] Morehead + Trigg be ordered and directed to desist from suing or prosecuting any claim against the undersigned and [[?]] Shipp, Bourges + Co to account of the cotton [[crop/cash]] raised during the year 1867 in [[Solence]] and [[Moodetreld]] plantations _ and that the said Chew be directed to surrender to the undersigned the receipt for cotton, so given as aforesaid, and that the undersigned be [[freed/saved/considered/carried]] free from all cash + expenses.

Inasmuch as Shipp Bourges + Co. received the cotton subject to a condition specified in the receipt and inasmuch as the proceeds [[were]] legally awarded them by a military Board of Arbitration, and they have in all things connected with this cotton crop acted strictly + wholly in conformity with military orders_ it is but good + right, that they should expect protection from expensive + harassing lawsuits from military Headquarters. [[Unless]] such protection + immunity is given, every board of arbitration is to have its decision reviewed in the courts and the most fertile source of litigation known, opened to the people of the state.

I am [[great]] with much respect.

Your [[?]] + Servant
