The record books show the following numbers of entries under each grown: Grows taceans, 996; Worms 2611; Echinoderms and Coelenterates 1412; Bryogoans and Ascidians, 130; Sponges and Protograms, 103; a total of 5252. The large number of entries made in the worm catalogue resulted from the recording of the fine collection of annelids, turned over to the Museum by W. James E. Benedict, naturalist of the steamer Albatross, who reigned his position during the summers to engage in business. He had been making a special study of the growth.
