Stoughton January 31st 1938

Dear Doris,
Another good sunshiny day & not so cold. February tomorrow its to be hoped it will be like the rest but am afraid we shall have a little more of a taste of winter weather.
Pa got the town report this noon so he has been busy reading it ever since he did not even take time for his nap as he usually does but he will go to bed earlier & sleep sound all night.
I asked the Smith boy how Lou Thompson was getting along, he said they had taken him to the hospital for observation, so there seems to be some thing that's not going right with him. I guess they will finish him, but I vow there's one thing if it were me I would stay in my one home & die there before being butchered in the hospital.
I am glad Sidney has decided stop take a good rest off by his lonesome, think its just what's needed. I would have to poke around if anything ailed me
