& telephone bills so I can call on Alice & get some books to read. I have not been reading as much as common lately my sewing has taken up my time mostly.

Mystic has two or three things all going at once, but I never could do that way. I am for finishing the one thing, before beginning another, otherwise they would fret me. I have worked for pay on piece work & she hasnt [[hasn't]]. I have done such work ever since I can remember. my mother always took home from the factory hoods, shawls and jackets & made me help. then I served stew, made hats, worked in the box shops, made leather shoe strings, crotched jackets for three years. & now I dont [[don't]] take in work. my life is nearly run I hope. I feel that I have made myself useful, if nothing else. well the time is drawing toward supper time & I must close this & get my fire ready.
