"MONEY MAD"

A loose-jointed effort, that's all. "Charitably good," as one seat-filler remarked. Dear Mrs. McKinley, sitting in the rear and praying, and a cast of a hundred or more busy on the stay playing, playing at odds and ends. That was "Money Mad." Amateur? Yes. Good? No. As unpolished as the front-door knob of a summer vacationist. That's the play and players in ensemble, with due respect to their feelings and to Mrs. DeCoursey, a very good woman.

The Crowd: Colored society, brownskin babbitts, members of the A. B. C., many high yellows, determined browns; representatives of the Defender in three boxes, the Whip in all sections; Ed. Morris, lawyer, worried but patient; clothes, clothes; giggling, silliness in the society audience, discourtesy rampant in one way or another, and the bootlegger and the best liver shaking hands with one another.

In particular; Earl Partello, good enough to make Tom Particola jealous; Evelyn Brantley, good; Carol Chilton, good; June Fisher, earnest; "Dick Jones", popular; Theodore Sykes, faulty but not his fault; George Bizzelle, colorless, but attractive; Ray Moore weak, but attractive; Dorothy Codozoe, beautiful; Mrs. Lillia Price, good; Baker DePugh, rotten; Milo Lewis, good; Dorothy Baylor, good; others shining here and there as the sun on a cloudy day. The girls' voices were uniformly poor so far as the upper register i concerned; Mrs. Price being the best in the various rangers and Miss Fisher in interpreting her lines. The dance ensembles were bad, except for the youngsters. The individual dancers were very good and protracted, too. The humor in the play was bleary, stale and filled with puns, save for one bright pass, with which we close:

"What's that bump on your forehead, Old Dear?"

"Oh, that's nothing. A thought struck me!"
