Dear Doris

This is an elegant day just about right for comfort. every thing is growing outside. I have been busy since early morning my last tomatoes were those I planted in the house so to get them out of the way I train planted them into the garden patch. the cut worms were after them & so I scattered soot on the dirt around the roots & I think it was effectual. so far they are standing by all right. this founoon there was quite an excitement over to Geo Rings it seemed she was going down the cellar stairs with some salmon in a plate to feed their cat & had a pair of shoes with rubber bottoms she was not used to wearing & caught the heel & went down head first fell on her face so George said, she bled profusely, but had strength enough to crawl back, the doctor told them it was a great wonder she escaped as easy as she did. Jo saw her on their back steps covered with blood & was suspect & wanted me to go right over but by that time the Ballentines were there & to all appearances, she was well cared for so I kept away, even old Moses went in to see about the trouble.
